Vamos dar continuidade ao nosso estudo sobre conversações.
Tenham em mente a importância desta prática, pois é neste momento que você vai se adaptar com diálogos, vai compreender palavras e expressões e conseguir se comunicar, responder, formando conversas fluídas e trabalhando o spoken english, ou seja, o inglês do dia a dia, natural, falado rápido.
Repita o processo de estudo:
1 - Ouça sem fazer a leitura e tente compreender o máximo possível.
2 - Depois ouça enquanto faz a leitura e associa as palavras que ouve com as que lê, repetindo a pronúncia em voz alta.
3 - Por último, faça a leitura das conversações sem ouvir o áudio, apenas repetindo a pronúncia que acabou de aprender e colocando em prática.
Estes 3 simples passos treinam seu cérebro e tornam seu estudo muito mais produtivo, eficiente e lhe traz os melhores resultados.

81 - A romantic story.
Paul: Betty, você ainda está namorando o John? / Betty, are you and John still dating?
Betty: Sim, as coisas estão indo muito bem. / Yeah, things are going really good.
Paul: Onde você o encontrou? / Where did you meet him?
Betty: Eu o encontrei na biblioteca há algumas semanas atrás. Nós estávamos sentados na mesma mesa e ele me pediu minha caneta emprestada. / I met him at the library a couple of weeks ago. We were sitting at the same table and he asked to borrow my pen.
Paul: Uau, essa é uma boa história. / Wow, that’s a nice story.
Betty: Eu estava falando com o Jim sobre isso outro dia. Ele achou muito romântica. / I was telling Jim about it the other day. He thought it was pretty romantic.
Paul: Vocês dois tem planos para hoje à noite? / Do you two have plans for tonight?
Betty: Sim, eu acho que nós vamos alugar um filme. Você viu alguma coisa boa ultimamente? / Yes, I think we’re going to rent a movie. Have you seen anything good lately?
Paul: Eu ví o Homem Aranha outro dia. / I saw Spider-Man the other day.
Betty: Eu ouví que é um filme divertido. / I’ve heard that’s a really funny movie.
Paul: Tá brincando? O filme não é divertido. É triste. Eu estava chorando ao final. / Are you kidding? That movie’s not funny. It’s sad. I was crying at the end.
Betty: Você é muito sensível, não é? / You’re really sensitive, aren’t you?
Paul: Acho que sim. Talvez seja por isso que eu não consigo encontar uma namorada. / I guess so. Maybe that’s why I can’t find a girlfriend.
82 - Worried about dad.
Kim: Oi Peter, posso falar com você um momento. Eu acabei de escutar que a fábrica de biscoitos do centro vai fechar. / Hi Peter, can I talk to you for a moment. I just heard the cookie factory downtown is going out of business.
Peter: Onde você ouviu isso? / Where did you hear that?
Kim: A Sara me disse. / Sara told me.
Peter: Eu não tenho certeza de que isso é verdade. Eu não ouví nada sobre isso. / I’m not sure that’s true. I haven’t heard anything about it.
Kim: Ela disse que eles já começaram a mandar gente embora. / She said that they have already started to lay people off.
Peter: O teu pai não trabalha lá? / Doesn’t your father work there?
Kim: Sim, eu estou bem preocupada que ele seja mandado embora, ele começou a trabalhar lá há três meses. O que você acha que eu devo fazer? / Yes, I’m really worried he might get laid off, he just started to work there about three months ago. What do you think I should do?
Peter: Eu falaria com ele. / I’d talk to your father.
Kim: Sim, mas se houvesse algo errado ele não acho que ele me contaria. Ele não gosta de me aborrecer, mas eu realmente gostaria de saber o que está acontecendo. / Yeah, but if there was something wrong I don’t think he’d tell me. He doesn’t like to upset me, but I really would like to know what’s going on.
Peter: Então o que você vai fazer? / So what are you gonna do?
Kim: Você não é bem amigo do presidente daquela empresa? / Aren’t you good friends with the president of that company?
Peter: Sim, nós trabalhamos juntos numa empresa diferente há uns cinco anos atrás. / Yes, we use to work together at a different company about five years ago.
Kim: Talvez você pudesse ligar pra ele e ver o que está acontecendo? / Maybe you could call him and see what’s going on.
Peter: Bom, eu não sei. Eu acho que poderia. É bem tarde agora mas eu ligo pra ele pela manhã. / Well, I don’t know. I guess I could. It’s pretty late now, but I’ll call him in the morning.
Kim: OK, muito obrigada. / OK, thanks so much.
83 - I'm getting fat.
Dan: Uau, eu estou engordando. / Wow, I’m really getting fat.
Melissa: Você não parece gordo. / You don’t look fat.
Dan: Sim, mas eu estou. Eu ganhei 10 libras nos últimos dois meses. Olha o meu estômago. / Yes, but I am. I’ve gained 10 pounds in the last two months. Look at my stomach.
Melissa: Quanto você pesa? / How much do you weigh?
Dan: Eu acho que umas 170 libras. / I think about 170 pounds.
Melissa: Que tipo de comida você come? / What kind of foods do you eat?
Dan: Eu geralmente como massa na janta. Às vezes eu busco um fast food se eu não tenho tempo para cozinhar. / I usually have pasta for dinner. Sometimes I get take-out or fast food if I don’t have enough time to cook.
Melissa: Eu estava lendo um livro de dieta outro dia. Dizia que se voce come carne e nada mais você perde peso rapidamente. / I was reading a diet book the other day. It said that if you eat meat and nothing else, you’ll lose weight quickly.
Dan: Uau, isso funciona? / Wow, does that work?
Melissa: Eu não sei, mas alguém me disse que tentou e perdeu 20 libras. / I don’t know, but someone told me they tried it and lost 20 pounds.
Dan: Parece bom, mas eu não tenho certeza quanto tempo eu aguentaria isso. / That sounds good, but I’m not sure how long I could do that.
Melissa: Eu sei, uma vez que você começa a comer legumes e pão novamente você provavelmente vai começar a ganhar peso. / I know, once you start eating vegetables and bread again you’ll probably start gaining weight.
Dan: Bem, eu acho que eu vou tentar mesmo assim. Que é o autor. / Well, I think I’m going to try it anyway. Who’s the author?
Melissa: Eu não consigo me lembrar. É mais mais muito popular. Quanto eu chegar em casa eu checo e te dou um telefonema. / I can’t remember. It’s not that popular anymore. When I get home I’ll check and give you a call.
84 - It's snowing outside.
Donna: Ei, o que você fez hoje? / Hey, what have you been doing today?
Robert: Nada, apenas assistí televisão. Eu estou bem entediado. Eu não tenho nada para fazer. / Nothing, just watching TV. I’m really bored. I don’t have anything to do.
Donna: Eu também não tenho nada para fazer. Eu não fiz nada hoje a não ser limpar a casa. / I don’t have anything to do either. I didn’t do anything today except clean my house.
Robert: Eu sei. Eu planejava ir ao shopping hoje com um dos meus amigos mas nevou tanto que eu não pude ir a lugar algum. / I know. I was planning to go to the mall today with one of my friends, but it snowed so much we couldn’t go anywhere.
Donna: Eu espero que neve a noite toda porque eu não quero ir à escola amanhã. / I hope it snows all night because I don’t want to go to school tomorrow.
Robert: Você conhece alguém que tenha uma máquina fotográfica? Eu quero tirar uma foto de toda essa neve. / Do you know anyone who has a camera? I want to take a picture of all this snow.
Donna: Não eu não conheço niguém que tenha uma câmera / No, I don’t know anyone who has a camera.
Robert: Você viu a Sara hoje? Eu acho que ela deve ter. / Have you seen Sara today? I think she might have one.
Donna: Não, ela não apareceu o dia todo. Ela disse que tinha alguma coisa importante pra fazer hoje. / No, she hasn’t been around all day. She said she had something important to do today?
Robert: Onde ela foi? / Oh, where did she go?
Donna: Ninguém sabe. Eu chamei a colega de quarto dela e ela não sabe também. / Nobody knows. I called her roommate and she doesn’t know either.
85 - Missed call.
Anthony: Mandy, você sabia que a Heather te ligou? / Mandy, did you know Heather called you?
Mandy: Não. Quando ela ligou? / No. When did she call?
Anthony: Há duas horas atrás, eu acho. / Two hours ago, I think.
Mandy: Duas horas atrás? Por que você não me disse mais cedo? / Two hours ago? Why didn’t you tell me earlier?
Anthony: Desculpa, eu esquecí. / Sorry, I forgot.
Mandy: O que ela disse? / What did she say?
Anthony: Ela disse que está te esperando na casa da irmã dela. / She said she’s waiting for you at her sister’s place.
Mandy: OK, eu ia fazer o jantar primeiro mas eu não acho que tenha muito tempo agora. Eu vou apenas esquentar algumas sobras no microondas. / OK, I was going to cook dinner first, but I don’t think I have enough time now. I’ll just warm up some leftovers in the microwave.
Anthony: OK. / OK.
Mandy: Se ela ligar novamente dia a ela que eu vou atrasar. / If she calls again tell her I’m gonna to be late.
Anthony: OK, sem problemas. / OK, no problem.
Mandy: Isto é muito importante. Não se esqueça. / This is very important. Don’t forget.
Anthony: Não se preocupe. Eu não vou esquecer. / Don’t worry. I won’t forget.
Mandy: Na verdade, você me alcança o telefone? Eu acho que eu deveria ligar pra ela agora. Ela provavelmente está pensando onde estou. / Actually, would you please hand me my phone? I think I should give her a call now. She’s probably wondering where I am.
Anthony: Claro, eu pego pra você. / Sure, I’ll get it for you.
86 - Shopping for a friend.
Karen: Eu vou às compras. Você quer vir? / I’m going shopping. Do you want to come?
Jason: Eu pensei que você foi às compras ontem. / I thought you went shopping yesterday.
Karen: Eu fui, mas um velho amigo me ligou ontem à noite e me conviou para o aniversário dele. Eu preciso comprar um presente pra ele. / I did, but an old friend called me last night and invited me to his birthday party. I need to buy a gift for him.
Jason: Sei. O que você vai comprar pra ele? / I see. What are you going to get him?
Karen: Eu realmente não tenho ideia do que ele gosta. Eu não o vejo há algum tempo. O que você acha? / I really have no idea what he likes. I haven’t seen him in a long time. What do you think?
Jason: Talvez um bolo? / Maybe a cake?
Karen: Bom é uma boa ideia, mas wu acho que eu deveria comprar outra coisa, como algo de vestir. / Well, that’s a good idea, but I think I should probably get him something else, like something he can wear.
Jason: Que tal um pulover? Eu ví um muito bom no shopping outro dia. Talvez nós possamos ir até lá e dar uma olhada. / How about a sweater? I saw a really nice one in the mall the other day. Maybe we can go there and take a look.
Karen: OK, em que loja era? / OK, what store was it in?
Jason: Era na Macy’s. Eu acho que estão em liquidação nesta semana. / It was at Macy’s. I think they’re having a sale this weekend.
Karen: Nossa, essa é uma loja boa. Eu gosto das roupas de lá. / Oh, that’s a really nice store. I like the clothes there.
87 - What is your major?
Tim: Ei Diane, o que você está fazendo aqui / Hey Diane, what are you doing here?
Diane: Oi Tim, como vai você? Eu estou esperando um amigo. / Hi, Tim, how are you? I’m waiting for a friend.
Tim: Eu ouví que você vai se formar neste verão. É verdade? / I heard you’re going to graduate this summer. Is that true?
Diane: Sim. Se tudo der certo eu vou virar bacharel em agosto. Então eu preciso começar a procurar um emprego. / Yes. If everything goes alright, I’ll be getting my bachelors degree in August. Then I need to start looking for a job.
Tim: Eu tive que fazer isso no ano passado. Não foi fácil. Você tem alguma oferta de emprego? / I had to do that last year. It wasn’t easy. Do you have any job offers?
Diane: Não ainda nao. Eu mandei um monte de currícolos mas não recebí muitas respostas. É muito difícil arrumar um emprego agora. / No, not yet. I sent out a lot of resumes, but I didn’t receive many responses. It’s pretty hard to find a job right now.
Tim: No que você se forma? / What’s your major?
Diane: Psicologia. / Psychology.
Tim: Isso era o que eu fazia quando comecei a universidade, mas eu troquei para engenharia depois do primeiro ano. / That was my major when I started college, but I switched to engineering after the first year.
Diane: Eu acho que é mais fácil para engenheiros arrumar um emprego. / I think it’s easier for engineers to find a job.
Tim: Eu não estou tão certo sovre isso. Eu levei 3 meses pra encontrar um emprego. Eu finalmente consegui encontar um emprego depois de colocar meu currícolo em um daqueles websites. / I’m not sure about that. It took me about 3 months to find a job. I finally was able to get a job after I put my resume on one of those job websites.
Diane: De qualquer forma, não importa. Se eu não encontrar um emprego eu provavelmente voltarei para a escola para um Mestrado. / Anyway, it really doesn’t matter. If I can’t find a job I’ll probably go back to school to get my Masters degree.
88 - New apartment.
Gary: Alô? / Hello?
Nancy: Ei Gary, E aí? / Hey Gary. What’s up?
Gary: Eu não falo com você há tempos, o que está acontecendo? / I haven’t talked to you in a long time, what’s been happening?
Nancy: Bem, eu não sei se você ouviu. Eu acabei de me mudar para um apartamento novo em Los Angeles. / Well, I don’t know if you heard, I just moved into a new apartment in LA.
Gary: Não, eu ouví que você estava pensando em se mudar mas eu não sabia que já tinha encontrado um lugar. Que legal. / No, I heard you were thinking about moving but I didn’t know you’d already found a place. That’s cool.
Nancy: Sim, eu estou realmente feliz com isso. / Yeah, I’m really happy about it.
Gary: Você tem alguém pra dividir? / Do you have any roommates?
Nancy: Não desta vez. É uma ótima oportunidade pra mim pois eu nunca morei sozinha. / No, not this time. It’s a big change for me ‘cause I’ve never lived alone.
Gary: Você não acha que é muito solitário? / Don’t you think you’ll be lonely?
Nancy: Não muito. Eu tenho dois amigos que vivem no mesmo prédio. Nós todos jantamos juntos ontem a noite. / Not really, I have two friends who live in the same building. We all had dinner together last night.
Gary: Eles também são estudantes? / Are they students also?
Nancy: Não, eles não são estudantes, mas tem bastante estudante no meu prédio. / No, they’re not students, but there are a lot of students living in the building.
Gary: Parace um ótimo lugar. / Sounds like a nice place.
Nancy: Sim, eu acho que é um ótimo ambiente para aprender inglês. / Yeah, I think it’s a good environment for learning English.
Gary: Bem, estou feliz em ouvir que tudo está dando certo. / Well, I’m glad to hear everything worked out.
Nancy: Você deveria vir aqui e me visitar em alguma hora. Tem até uma piscina. / You should come out here and visit me sometime. There’s even a pool.
Gary: Isso seria ótimo. Eu vou pensar a respeito. / That would be nice. I’ll think about it.
89 - Have you found a girlfriend yet?
Amy: Justin, você ainda não encontrou uma namorada? / Justin, have you found a girlfriend yet?
Justin: Não ainda. / No, not yet.
Amy: Que tal a Jenny? / What about Jenny?
Justin: Ela tem um namorado. / She has a boyfriend.
Amy: Eu pensei que eles tinham desmanchado. / Oh, I thought they broke up.
Justin: Não eles ainda estão juntos. / No, they’re still together.
Amy: E que tal aquela garota do trabalho que você estava me falando no ano passado? / How about that girl from work you were telling me about last year?
Justin: Que? A Emily? Ela está casa agora. Ela se casou no mês passado. / Who, Emily? She’s married now. She got married last month.
Amy: Sei. Parece que todo mundo na tua idade está casado. / I see. It seems like everyone our age is married.
Justin: Sim não é fácil. / Yeah, it’s not easy.
Amy: Tem alguém em quem você esteja interessado?/ Is there anyone you’re interested in?
Justin: Tem uma garota que vive no meu prédio. Eu falo muito comela porque ela também está estudando inglês. / There is one girl I like who lives in my building. I talk to her a lot because she’s also studying English.

Justin: Ela é muito legal. Ela se mudou pra cá do Texas há uns três meses atrás. / She’s really nice. She moved here from Texas about 3 months ago.
Amy: O que ela faz? / What does she do?
Justin: Ela é contadora. / She’s an accountant.
Amy: É uma boa profissão. Ela deve ser bem esperta. Você já a convidou para sair? / That’s a good job. She must be really smart. Have you asked her out yet?
Justin: Na verdade nós vamos jantar na sexta. / Actually we’re going to dinner on Friday.

90 - Computer problems.
Anna: Oi Jason. Me desculpe incomodá-lo. Eu tenho uma pergunta pra você. / Hi Jason, Sorry to bother you. I have a question for you.
Jason: Ok, O que se passa? / OK, what’s up?
Anna: Eu tenho tido um problema com meu computador. Eu sei que você é um engenheiro então eu pensei que você conseguiria me ajudar. / I’ve been having a problem with my computer. I know you’re an engineer so I thought you might be able to help me.
Jason: Sei. Qual é o problema? / I see. What’s the problem?
Anna: Eu tenho um arquivo que eu não posso abrir por alguma razão. / I have a file that I can’t open for some reason.
Jason: Que tipo de arquivo é? / What type of file is it?
Anna: É um documento de Word no qual eu estou trabalhando. Eu preciso terminar isso até amanhã. / It’s a Word document I’ve been working on. I need to finish it by tomorrow.
Jason: Você conseguia abrí-lo antes no computador que você está usando agora? / Were you able to open it before, on the computer you’re using now?
Anna: Sim, eu estava trabalhando nele na noite passada e tudo estava bem, mas nesta manhão eu não conseguí abrir o arquivo. / Yes, I was working on it last night and everything was fine, but this morning I couldn’t open the file.
Jason: Você acha que o computador pode ter um vírus? / Do you think your computer might have a virus?
Anna: Não eu chequei e não havia nada. / No, I checked and there weren’t any.
Jason: OK, eu não tenho certeza do que está errado. Se possível, me envie o arquivo por email e eu verei se eu posso abrí-lo. / OK. I’m not sure what’s wrong. If it’s possible, email the file to me and I’ll see if I can get it to open.
Anna: OK, eu farei isso quando chegar em casa. Você estará por aí esta noite? / OK, I’ll do that when I get home. Are you going to be around tonight?
Jason: Sim, eu estarei em casa após as 20h. Envie pra mim quando tiver uma chance e eu te ligo mais tarde. / Yeah, I’ll be home after 8PM. Send it to me when you get a chance and I’ll call you later.
